This is a free ballistic calculator for use with Windows Excel and any pocket PC / Windows CE that has Excel installed. 'Black Berry' 'Windows Mobil smart phones'
FYI: you can pick up used 'pocket PC's' cheep on ebay.
Provided you input the right data to start, this is one of the most accurate calculators i have used. Using this in a PDA has scored me 1 shot hits on Groundhogs out to 460 yards with light little 223 40gr Vmax with my flat top AR. And just this summer '2010' i now have made a 882y, 1/2 mile kill on a groundhog with a 60gr 223 Btip.

Best if used in conjunction with a good laser rangefinder. Just laze the target, input that number to the top box on the PDA screen, put in the wind, temp and slope data if you have it and set your scope to the settings the calculator shows.

I have just bought the Knight's BulletFlight L2 and 'Ballistic' for my Ipod, using the same data, both are with in 1/2 MOA or less out past 1000y when the data is matched to my spread sheet.

But, if i was going to buy another for the Ipod / IPhone, it would be 'Ballistic FTE'

For the cash, it has a lot more features then BulletFlight. Just make sure to get the FTE version, the cheaper version isn't as useful with out 'HUD display'
If you have a Palm, you have a few free options, PSSF pocket SSF while it does has some great features, BUT, i have not found it to be that accurate.
The 2nd option would be Ballistic v1.0Whilenot as nice looking as PSSF, it is way more accurate in the calculations.

If you can open XLS on your palm, then try my sheet, but not sure if all the features will work.

If you have a Droid, do a market search for 'Shooter' (Ballistics)
by seankndy, its 9.99 its the best prog hands down for droid.

Also I see 'Shooter Ballistics' is out for Ipad, Ipod touch and Iphone. http://shooterapp.net/
after using it a bit, it looks like for 9.99 it will be the new king, it has most of what FTE and KAC has, and more. the 'more' is realy geared for LONG range shooting.. if all you shoot is less then 500, any of these apps will work, but if you shoot 1000y to 2000y, I suggest it.
His instructions are also much better on using his app.

Free version, supporting G1 and G7 models. Will only save current ballistics profile. Regular version will allow saving multiple profiles.

You can calibrate most software and is simple enough too do.

Some of the elements in the video “Magpul” are correct for other software, like actually shooting to a range that puts the round around 1300fps. (example)

The steps are simple enough, calibrate your scope and if necessary adjust the software using the sight offset, click value, etc. This will work with most software to include the iPhone Apps.

Then, calculate actual drop. You can start at 300 yards to begin. At this range you can adjust your BC if necessary. The BC will move based on the rifle shooting it. For example BulletFlight has an option in the utilities area to adjust BC based on Drop. it will give you a new G1 or G7 which you can then input into your data section.

Lastly you can calibrate the drop out to 800 yards like the video. Checking at distance is the final step, but you should have at least choreographed your load to start with, if you haven't then some software does have functions to adjust it based on drop.

Certain software has a DK function to bend the curve, this is used in place of adjusting the BC or MV, so you can do it a number of ways with a number of different software solutions, not just the Horus. Remember he was hired by Horus in the beginning to work and sell Horus methods and products, so of course they are not going to inform you of other methods.

Calibrating the system like above I have taken software like Field Firing Solutions and Patagonia LB3 out to distances beyond 2000 yards with very successful hit rates. Inside 1500m the first round hits where more consistent than when you didn't do it, and at 1000 yards and in it was too easy with a rifle like a 338LM.

Great Ballistics Program

I don't usually write reviews and I am fairly new to precision shooting. But this program allowed me to go out and make accurate shots at 500 yards with hand loads. And by accurate I mean within a 6x6 inch plate (second shot after adjusting for wind). This app has a lot of features, which might be a little overwhelming for the first time user. But as soon as I got everything calibrated for my rifle, the ballistic charts are fantastic for my .308 .. Great app and in my opinion worth every dollar. The app is regularly updated and as I'm writing this review a new version is currently in beta. Very excited to see what results I get at further ranges.
Edit: used again for 1100 yards with my 6.5 creedmoor and shooting 12 inch steel plate. Got multiple hits, and initially really got me close to target. Have to do some adjustment, and verify hits at prior ranges. But great app! Highly recommended

Awesome program for target shooting & hunters.

This is the first shooting solution program I have purchased. With a little range time and practicing with the program variables all three of my hunting rifles (300 Ultra Mag, .257 Weatherby Magnum and a 30-06) are on the money out to 700 yards. If your after an easy to understand program that's self contained on your smart phone look no further. Hunting in the mountains or hitting gongs at 700 yards this program lets you input real time wind, altitude and elevation data and generates a trustworthy shooting solution. The data base of bullet BC's and drag coefficients is very user friendly. You can easily input live wind direction, speed and temperature. Push the calculate button, dial your turrets and shoot. Great work guys!

I was having an issue getting the current atmosphere to update. I sent an email on Friday evening asking for support. Saturday morning I received an email from Curt.
I was amazed that the developer responded so quickly especially over the weekend. I switched the weather service provider from NMI to NOAA and it works perfectly.
I really appreciate the support, makes the purchase price all worth it
About the app... I’m new to calculating ballistics but have really enjoyed trying different ammunition’s and being able to see the results. Being new to the whole everything I still found the app easy to navigate and use.

Thanks for reaching out! We are working on a bug in the app causing this issue. Until we have this fixed, you can go in to the ballistics settings and try switching to another weather service provider like Geo or NMI. You may need to restart the app for this to take hold.
